Sheffield Scuba diving specialists Diveworld have joined calls for overseas aid to be targeted to help small businesses grow in developing countries.
Louise Kiyani, manager of the Hillsborough firm, sent a card to Andrew Mitchell MP, minister for international development, pressing for more carefully targeted aid.
She said: “In some poorer countries, small businesses are the backbone of the national economy. A healthy economy brings greater stability, better developments for self-sustainability and a means for people to work their own way out of poverty.”
The company is urging the public to back a campaign by overseas aid organisation CAFOD to promote small businesses.
