The collaboration will see the trams emblazoned with the cancer charity’s new branding and charity information taking pride of place on tram windows.

To celebrate the new partnership, the charity’s mascot Westie got behind the wheel of one of the trams as it took to the road.

Nigel Wragg, Supertram commercial manager, and Samantha Kennedy, the cancer charity’s director, joined Westie to officially launch the new branding.

Nigel said: “We are delighted to help support this important charity in this way.

“With Westie on board we hope to be able to raise the profile of the charity and help raise funds for this vital lifeline.

“With Weston Park Hospital only a short walk from one of our stops, it’s a natural fit for us to work together.”

Samantha added: “We are delighted to have been given this fantastic opportunity by Stagecoach Supertram.

“Thousands of people use the tram everyday across Sheffield and we hope that passengers and passers-by will enjoy our new brand as they travel in and out of the city.

“As a local charity, it’s important for us to continue working with local companies, especially within the transport sector, as many of the cancer patients at Weston Park Hospital rely on this service to get them to and from appointments.

“We’ll be working very closely with Supertram over the next year to develop initiatives which will engage with their passengers and make their journey just that little more exciting - watch this space.”

Weston Park Hospital is one of only a handful of specialist cancer hospitals in England and treats patients from all over South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire – a population of almost 1.8 million people.

Weston Park Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity for the hospital and exists to support the cancer research and to improve the treatment and care for people living with the disease.

Stagecoach Supertram facilitates more than 10 million passenger journeys every year.

The cancer charity needs to raise over £2 million this year to enable the funding of committed and new projects that will keep patients at the forefront of cancer treatment.
