Sunday became Monday for pupils at a Conisbrough school, prior to them sitting the controversial SATS exams.

All 38 pupils at Conisbrough Ivanhoe Primary Academy were in school on May 8 from 9.50am to 2.30pm, with a break for a McDonalds lunch.

A staff spokeswoman said: “It was a great success. The children had fun as well as serious study time, with extra playtimes so as not to miss the sunshine.”

She added: “The main purpose was to take Monday out of the equation. We often find that children are tired on Mondays, and much more ‘up for it’ on a Tuesday.

“We pretended Sunday was Monday so that when the children got in for their first SATS exam they were fresh and raring to go. The school gives as much support to the children as possible to help them through their SATs and try and make it fun.” An after-SATS treat saw the children visit Ice Sheffield for the day.
