Youngsters in Rotherham can look forward to a summer of fun and sporting action as Mega Active returns to the town.

Rotherham Council’s Sports Development Team have been working with more than a dozen community partners to ensure the summer is packed with a wide range of activities and events.

The Mega Active programme includes a vast array of events for children aged between four and 16, featuring everything from kangoo jumps and football to skating, theatre workshops and family fun days.

This year also sees the return of the Rotherham Summer Games at Maltby Leisure Centre on Thursday, August 30 and Herringthorpe Stadium on Friday, August 31.

Organiser promise most of the events put on by Mega Active - which can be found in their brochure - are very affordable.

Rotherham Council cabinet member for culture and tourism Amy Rushforth said the sporting fun events had been running in the town for almost 10 years - and had always proved very popular among youngsters and their families.

She said: “For close to a decade the Mega Active programme of events has been filling Rotherham children’s summer holidays with challenges, fun, sporting adventures and creativity.”

Coun Rushforth added: “In this Olympic year, it’s fantastic that Rotherham can offer such a broad range of activities at affordable prices to make the summer holidays so exciting.
