Study leads to foster changes

A PIONEERING initiative from one of Yorkshire’s fostering agencies will see foster carers given greater authority over children in their care.

Team Fostering, a non-profit group in Sheffield, began Project Listen in 2011 to identify concerns of young people in care and is making changes to the system as a result.

The changes follow new government guidance on delegated authority, and will allow foster carers to have the authority to make day-to-day decisions, such as signing school trip permission forms.

Vicky Davidson Boyd, assistant director of Team Fostering, said: “Our research revealed foster children just want to be like everyone else.”
