Students raise cash for homeless charity

Student-run appeal '˜Give As You Rent' has awarded £500 to Sheffield's youth housing charity, Roundabout.

Roundabout provides shelter, support and life skills to more than 155 young people in South Yorkshire every day and has the only emergency access hostel in Sheffield for 16-21 year olds.

The appeal is run by Sheffield RAG (Raise And Give) in partnership with Residence Life, to support local organisations working with the homeless and vulnerable people in Sheffield.

To raise funds for the project, students living in University accommodation can choose to donate £2 per term when paying their rent.

Sheffield RAG’s charity officer, George Hampson, said: “The Give As You Rent scheme awards funds to charities and projects which will allow them to continue to provide vital support to those in need.

“£2 a term may not sound like a huge amount, but with so many students happy to donate, we raised an amazing £23,000 this year meaning many charities can benefit.”
