YOUNGSTERS were put though their paces by soldiers in Sheffield – after joining up for a day to take a look at life in the armed forces.
The Territorial Army’s 38 Signal Regiment, based at Manor Top Barracks, hosted pupils from Wales School, Rotherham. Events included an assault course, the chance to look at vehicles, equipment and weapons and a chat with soldiers, some of whom have served in Afghanistan.
Captain David Edmunds said: “We welcomed a group of around 20 people including teachers.
“The aim was to give a flavour of what we do and get some interest from teenagers to join the Army Cadets or Territorial Army.
“There was a welcome presentation then we had organised some outward-bound activities including an assault course. Several of the group showed an interest in joining.”
Capt Edmunds said the regiment can arrange similar events for other schools.
