Students fears over late night club bid

YOUNG residents say they fear for their safety if a city centre club is allowed to remain open until 4am every night.

Students living at Tiger Works on West Street say they fear serious problems and violence if West Street Live extends its opening hours.

Student Rebecca Harris said: “We have heard fights outside the venue and it is a concern that our property may get broken into or one of the tenants injured outside the flat.”

“There is a lot of noise made into the early hours already and we are third-year university students with important exams coming up.”

The club is open until 2am Sunday to Thursday and 3am during Bank Holidays. It has already been granted permission to remain open until 4am on Friday and Saturday and is said to have operated without any problems.

Licensees Jawed Ali and Aisha Ali consulted police before applying to keep the bar open longer during the week.

Councillors on Sheffield’s licensing committee meet today to decide whether to grant the extra hours.
