A cafe run by students at Rotherham College has received top marks for its food hygiene.
The Café @ the Heart, which opened in February 2015 at Rotherham College’s Dinnington campus, has received a 5 star food hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency.
It is run by students from the college’s Futures Department, who do everything from cooking, stock rotation, research to making hand-made cards on sale in the cafe.
A college spokesman said: “The students are involved in all aspects of running the cafe, from the research, prototypes, stock rotation, cooking and decorating to making the hand crafted cards available.
“The cafe hosts a range of coffee mornings at valentines, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. There is a large selection of cakes and biscuits to buy, crafts to buy and raffles to take part in.
“The students are motivated and come in with new ideas and people see that they do it all. We’ve had a good response, we even have orders to take away and family events and get orders from town centre for cakes.”
The cafe is open five days a week from 9am until 2.30pm for staff, students and visitors.
