Student Harry Flowers is handpicked by Burnley

Marketing student Harry Flowers has signed an 18-month contract with the Clarets after being spotted playing for the University’s football team. The 20-year-old has joined the club until the end of the 2017-18 season, following a trial set up his coach, Ronnie Glaven. Harry said: “I can’t put into words what Sheffield Hallam football has done for me.”

Dan Porter, head of sports services at Sheffield Hallam, said: “I would like to congratulate Harry on his incredible achievement. Everyone at the University who knows Harry is delighted for him.

“This is a great recognition not only for Harry but also for the football programme and coaching that we have at Hallam in partnership with Sheffield FC.

“I wish Harry every success in his footballing career and know he has a very bright future ahead of him.”

Harry is the grandson of former England player Ron Flowers who was part of the 1966 World Cup winning squad. He also won two FA Cups with Wolves and played more than 500 games for the club.

This is the second footballing success in as many weeks for Sheffield Hallam students after recent graduate Raul Correia joined Blackpool on an 18-month contract.

The 22-year-old graduated with a degree in business financial management before signing for the Seasiders from non-league club Radcliffe Borough.
