Struggling Sheffield Steeldogs end up empty-handed

Sheffield Steeldogs suffered another weekend with nothing to show for the efforts.

Missing Charnock, Shudra and Pattison (plus Mrna for Sunday’s game), they huffed and puffed but couldn’t find the goals to secure a victory over two games.

Bracknell's visit on Saturday offered a chance for payback for a defeat at home a couple of weeks before - but two early penalties led to two goals against, setting the tone for the weekend.

Pavel Mrna got the Dogs on the scoreboard however the Bees regained their two goal lead soon after. The big Czech added a second in the 39th minute and a power play early in the final period gave Sheffield a great chance to get level. However Bees veteran player/coach Lukas Smital hadn't read the script and scored short-handed.

Mrna's hat-trick goal set up an exciting finish but Bees hung on to take the win 4-3.

Steeldogs travelled to the unusual location of the Fylde Coast Arena for Sunday's game against the nomadic Manchester Phoenix.

Sheffield were caught cold again early; the Phoenix were two up inside the first 5 minutes and the Dogs looked at sixes and sevens.

They came out after the break as the far better side but failed to find a way past net minder Fone despite out shooting the Phoenix 19-7 in the second.

They got their rewards in the third as a brace from Liam Kirk briefly brought parity - but which also stung Manchester back in to life.

Goals from Kovar and Malinik putting Tony Hand’s side back in control and they finished the night winners by 5-2.

Coach Greg Wood will hope that next weekend’s single game on Sunday at iceSheffield against the MK Lightning provides the chance to turn around results.
