The story (May 12) about a man trying to get a house with his partner and child in Hackenthorpe is one hundreds of people can relate to.
My partner and I have also been after a house in the area and even with priority status because of our situation, we still find we have no chance of getting a larger house here. Why is this?
Well the reason is because of the SWAN development, which took over 800 homes and replaced them with houses being built that are either for sale or for shared ownership or are rented by Home Housing Association and not Sheffield City Council.
So where does that leave everyone on the housing register who are not demolition priority? It’s wrong that 800 Hackenthorpe homes have been sold off and the surrounding areas have to take the strain as they cram as many people as they can into the limited council houses that are left.
