Strongroom thrown open

VISITORS to Rotherham Library are being given the chance to look round the strongroom and inspect documents going back 700 years.

The strongroom is used to house important old books and documents, and will be thrown open as part of a local archives event. The half-day workshop on Thursday, September 20, is aimed at history buffs and will include the chance to see some of the material in the archives as well as advice on conducting your own research.

Assistant archivist Celia Parker said: “We hold more than 7,000 printed books and 45,000 individual documents - some of which date back to 1300.”

Places on the workshop cost 3 and booking is essential. Ring 01709 823616, call in at the library, or email [email protected]
