Strong police presence in Sheffield suburb after false alarm over report of weapons

There was a strong police presence in a Sheffield suburb tonight after a false alarm was raised about weapons in the area.

Several police cars were spotted in Willow Drive in Handsworth at about 4pm.

They were called out after reports of weapons in the area.

But a spokesman for the force tonight confirmed to The Star that the reports were a false alarm and that ‘everything was in order’ in the area.

On Wednesday The Star will feature an exclusive interview with the force’s new Chief Constable Stephen Watson, who has promised to take a tough stance on armed criminals.
