BIG electrical retailers like Comet, Dixons and Argos, have offered legal undertakings to improve the extended warranties market works.

They include providing more information and launching a comparison website.

The announcement this week follows an Office of Fair Trading probe which highlighted concerns over competition.

About one in four people buy extended warranties – which cover the cost of repairs or replacement beyond manufacturer’s warranty – when they purchase electrical goods.
