Now under the management of the community, Stocksbridge Leisure Centre will be hosting its very first registration this weekend to unveil the new facilities to the public.

In February 2015 the refurbished ‘learner pool’ – complete with a new energy-efficient boiler – re-opened to groups and organised activities.

Members of the public will able to take a look at the revamped facilities on offer and sign-up to new membership schemes.

Residents pulled together to set-up the 4SLC Trust to raise money and redevelop the centre following its closure by Sheffield Council in April 2013.

Headed up by business manager of the trust, Andy Clarke, more than 3,000 volunteers put in around 75,000 hours work.

Andy said: “The reaction from the community has been phenomenal.

“The re-opening of the swimming facilities has created enormous interest, again from schools and clubs wanting to use us as their base, from individuals wanting recreational swimming and a large number wanting swimming lessons.

“The recently published timetable and prices have received favourable comment from the community and we look forward to seeing huge numbers returning.”

A lot of work has gone into the regeneration of the swimming area as quite a complex amount of repairs were needed to the main pool water tank.”

The registration weekend is being held today from 9am until 12pm.
