'˜Stevie the Donkey' returns for Christmas fair in Rotherham

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in Rotherham found a new home for ‘Stevie the Donkey’ in 2014 and staff will welcome him back as part of the annual Thornberry Farm Christmas Fair.

The 12-year-old is still remembered fondly by the team who cared for him and will be in his stable next door to Santa’s Grotto for guests who visit the fair at Silverthorpe Farm in Ravenfield.

Ahead of the event, staff have cleared out and decorated the stables to create quaint festive stalls, selling an array of gifts.

The event will also include children’s games, hot food and drinks, cake sales, live festive music and a raffle.

Heather Scott, fundraising and marketing organiser, urged members of the public to come along and join in the fun.

She added: “Our Christmas farm fair was a great success last year, raising over £1000, and we look forward to hosting another fun, festive, family event.

“All the staff and volunteers are very excited about putting on a really enjoyable event for the local community and meeting some of our supporters.

“These types of events also help us to raise awareness of the work we do and how individuals and businesses can support us.

“We look forward to getting our Christmas hats on and welcoming everyone.”

The event takes place from 4pm to 7pm and the suggested entry donation is 50p. The vet bills and running costs for Thornberry Animal Sanctuary exceeds £9000 per month.
