Stepping out for charity

A RETIRED grandfather is walking 192 miles – from one coast of England to the other – to raise money for Ashgate Hospice, Chesterfield.

David Edwards, aged 65, from Chesterfield, who will do the walk with a friend, will take two weeks to trek from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire to raise cash for the hospice which cared for his wife Sue in the days before her death from cancer in 2007.

Since retiring Mr Edwards has worked as a volunteer at the hospice one day a week.

He said: “The hospice is somewhere that means a lot to me and my family. We saw first hand what a wonderful job they do for people in their dying days and hours.”

n Visit to sponsor Mr Edwards for the walk, which is due to start on Thursday.
