Get your glad rags ready, comb your quiffs and practise your dance moves…it’s time for A Right Royal Vintage Hop.
On Saturday, June, 11, Rotherham town centre steps back in time with a day of vintage style entertainment and much more from 10.30am until 3.30pm, plus a ‘roll over’ event into the evening hosted by The Trades from 4pm.
Excellent live entertainment throughout the daytime will include delightful close-harmony singing trio The Darling Dollies, the wonderfully entertaining George Formby Experience and Elvis Once More, singing all your favourites from The King.
To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, Effingham Street plays host to a street party, so why not bring along your own picnic, take a seat at one of the many tables and enjoy the sights and sounds on offer.
There will be a very special guest at the Hop, who will be turning 90 in 2016 just like the Queen. Winner of Rotherham Council’s competition, the special guest will be chauffeured on the day in a classic Rolls Royce and treated to afternoon tea, kindly supplied by Scarlett’s Coffee Bar and Deli.
A vintage market will also be located on Effingham Street and Howard Street offering a quirky and eclectic mix of wares from household goods and jewellery to vintage clothing and bespoke hats.
Over 40 vintage vehicles will we positioned on Church Street and surrounding areas, a really popular part of the Vintage Hop, with a wide range of cars, bikes and vans for young and old alike to admire.
The Button Tin will be offering sewing workshops from 11.30am until 3pm for those wishing to make and take home a beautiful vintage treat.
The day will also include children’s entertainment from Barrington Powell, magician extraordinaire and The Suitcase Show from Ginger Beard Circus - lots of fun for younger audiences to enjoy!
Plus, for those wishing to learn a few moves there will be some fantastic Lindy Hop demonstrations throughout the day.
Vintage attire is strongly encouraged at the Hop with two great hampers, kindly donated by Tesco, to be won for the best dressed female and best dressed male on the day.
For those wishing to continue into the evening The Trades will be opening their doors from 4pm and rocking around the clock with spectacular trio The Mee Kats, performing 1950s rock and roll and red hot rockabilly and Sheffield’s Kings of Rockabilly, The Slingshots. Plus, the Sweet Tones will be singing hits from the 40s and 50s with a little more Lindy Hop tuition too!
Rotherham Council’s Advisory Cabinet Member for Housing and the Local Economy Cllr Denise Lelliott said: “What a great mix of vintage entertainment for the whole family.
“Visitors to the town centre are in for a real treat with this wonderful event, a feast for their eyes and ears and so much fun too.
“I really hope people embrace the Vintage Hop as they have done in previous years and have a fantastic day out.”
