Steeler Joe hoping for warm front in Sheffield as he targets sackful of goals - VIDEO

STEELERS' new star forward Joe Talbot has arrived in South Yorkshire...and is praying for better weather here than he is used to.

Putting aside the recent local flooding catastrophe and the worst British summer for years, Talbot may get what he wants...after all, he has just spent the last four years in the frozen wastes of Alaska!

Speaking on video to thestar.co.uk/video, the 27-year-old Canadian, admitted the attraction of the sub-zero temperatures wore off during his stay in Alaska.

But he added: "It was a good life style..the fans and the hockey were great and we really enjoyed our time there."

Yet after winning a championship, he said: "There was nothing else left to accomplish, it was time to move on."

The Sheffield opportunity was "a good fit," said the forward who hopes to bring in a sackload of points for his new side.

In the previous four seasons Talbot has averaged 25 goals and even more assists with Alaska Aces in the ECHL - something his coach Dave Matsos would like to see him do at Sheffield Arena, when the Elite League action starts.

"I usually find myself in the right spot at the right time" said Talbot.

"I pride myself working away from the puck as much as with it, it's a bit part of my game. I like to get an even keel between goals and assists."

Penalty minutes also come his way - suggesting a temper to go with his point-taking flair.

He may be relatively slender and just 5ft 10ins tall, but he is still determined to stand up for himself and his team-mates.

"I try not to be nasty but when emotions are running you never know what might happen."
