Stars shine at annual town hospital awards

Staff from Barnsley Hospital traded in their uniforms for cocktail dresses and bow ties, at the annual Barnsley Hospital Charity Heart Awards this month.

The seventh annual awards, which celebrates the hard work and dedication of Barnsley Hospital staff and volunteers, received over 100 nominations this year from staff and patients.

The event, hosted by BBC Look North’s Harry Gration, was held at Barnsley Football Club and more than 400 people turned out to celebrate.

Claire Grant, general and specialist surgery matron, scooped the BRILLIANT Staff Individual award while staff on the Surgical Decision Area took home the BRILLIANT Staff Team award.

The Chairman’s Award went to Janet Curry, a volunteer in the Outpatients Cafe, who not only gives her time to volunteer at the hospital, but also spends a lot of time fundraising for Barnsley Hospital Charity and the Tiny Hearts Appeal.

Chairman Stephen Wragg said: “It was a great honour to present Janet with my award this year. Janet has shown an enormous amount of commitment to the Trust and her role in voluntary services. She is an asset to the hospital and we can’t thank her enough.”
