Stars come out for flood victims' concert

DONCASTER'S biggest stars are lining up to take part in a live aid-style fundraiser to help those who have been devastated by floods in the borough.

Bentley, one of worst-affected areas, hosts Party in the Park, in Bentley Park on Sunday, October 14.

All money raised on the day will be donated to South Yorkshire flood relief fund.

Names taking part include former television comedian and singer Steve Womack, and former Coronation Street actor Chris Walker.

Mr Walker will be one of the judges at the event’s ‘Donny’s Got Talent’ search for a star.

Steve Womack - whose own Barnby Dun garden was flooded during the rains - said: “I’m delighted to be taking part. I just hope enough money is raised on the day to give some slight comfort to the people who suffered disproportionately during the flooding. I’ll do whatever the organisers want to help out.”

The event is being organised by the North Doncaster Development Trust and, as well as the star performances and search for a star of the future, includes sets by local bands, an auction, belly dancing, Indian dancing and food from Bentley Park Community Catering. Eastview Video are making a DVD of the event to be sold to raise funds for the flood appeal. This also gives local people the opportunity to be on the video.

David Webster, chief executive of NDDT, said: “This event will help to raise money for flood victims, not only through the ticket sales but also by selling the DVDs after the event.

“We are hoping the people of Doncaster will work with us to make this event a success, by taking part and coming to join us on the day.”

The event, which runs from 12 noon to 10pm, is funded by the National Lottery, Government and European Union grants.

Tickets cost 9 for adults and 5 for children and senior citizens - and are available by emailing [email protected] or calling Diana on 01302 874587.
