Editorial staff at The Star are in the running for prestigious media awards.
The newspaper has a total of five nominations in the 02 Media Awards for Yorkshire and Humberside – known as the ‘Oscars’ of regional journalism across print, television, radio and online media.
The Star is one of the finalists in the newspaper of the year category, with the winner announced at the ceremony in Leeds on Thursday, September 5.
Digital editor Graham Walker is also hoping to be crowned new media journalist of the year for the fourth consecutive year.
Features editor Martin Smith is shortlisted for feature writer of the year at the awards, while Richard Fidler - who reported from the London 2012 Olympics – is up for sports journalist of the year.
The Star’s newest reporting recruit, 25-year-old Toby Higgins, is in the running for the young journalist of the year prize.
