Staff at an Attercliffe call centre are hoping to stand and deliver in an effort to improve their well-being and waistlines.
Desk-bound workers at Virgin Media are taking part in a ground breaking scheme where they will work standing up for at least two hours per day.
It is hoped the 24 customer service agents who ditch their chairs will burn about 30,000 extra calories over the course of a year – the equivalent of more than half a stone of fat. Special kit has been installed to aid those taking part in the scheme to work as comfortably as possible.
Many people in our area work in call centres but they’re not the only ones who will feel they don’t get enough exercise while doing their jobs.
It will be interesting to see not only how much weight people lose but also how it affects their ability to work.
There’s no doubt the scheme will take some getting used to.
We like the comfort of our chairs – and it would take a brave firm to take them away at most places.
