The National Second Section Champions will be bringing Christmas cheer to audiences in pubs, concert halls and churches across Sheffield next month, with more than 20 engagements already in the diary.

A spokesman for the band said: “We are looking forward to performing our new concert programme, as well as the ever popular carolling evenings.

“Stannington has some unique carols which are only sung in this part of the country and we are proud to be carrying on with the tradition in our local pubs and churches.”

The festive tour starts on December 3 with a concert at the Lomas Hall, in Stannington, featuring special guests The Dore Male Voice Choir and the Stannington Training Band.

The following day the band will be teaming up with singer songwriter John Reilly, keyboard player Lewis Nitikman and Bevox Choir for the Christmas Festival of Music at Sheffield Cathedral in support of the Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Stannington Brass Band was launched in 1881 and, under the direction of current MD Derek Renshaw, has just enjoyed its most successful contesting year in its long history, winning the Yorkshire Area Second Section Contest in March, as well as the Whiston Festival of Brass in July and Bolsover Festival of Brass in October.

The band has now been promoted to the First Section in 2017 and was one of two bands representing Yorkshire in the Second section at the National Finals in September, where it returned as the National Champions of Great Britain

Proud of its long history, the band enjoys a well established line-up, with many players still living locally and some having made the progression from the Training Band to join the senior ranks.
