A Sheffield community group has revealed its plans to take over a city library at the end of this month.
Earlier this year Sheffield Council announced 15 local libraries had been saved from closure by handing control over to local groups.
Stannington and District Library Group has now teamed up with local environment group Action For Stannington that will allow the area around the resource to be maintained when STAND takes over the building at the end of September.
Volunteer Danny Piermattei said: “Having a prominent building like the library closed up and falling into disrepair is the last thing we would want to see. That’s why my group is happy that STAND has achieved success in its bid to take the library on.
“It’s why Action for Stannington is happy to get involved and help make the project a success.”
Mel Smart, of STAND’s building management group, said: “With so much to be done to make us ready for our opening day on September 29, we are glad to be able to call on Action for Stannington to fill this important role.
“They will be responsible for maintaining the outside of the building and adjacent parking spaces, which fits neatly alongside their upkeep of Stannington Park.”
