Stannington Brass Band hit the high notes

STANNINGTON band know all about brass and how best to raise it.

The brass band took centre stage for North East Derbyshire District Council’s 53rd annual Brass Band Festival, which raised almost £400 for charity.

The Sheffield band were crowned winners of the event at Dronfield Sports Centre.

Runners-up were Matlock Band with Shirland Welfare Band in third.

Richard Dowling, of Stannington Brass Band, won Best Soloist title.

More than 300 people attended the event and helped raise £397 for the Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

Coun Brian Wright, Chair of North East Derbyshire District Council, presented the trophies and prizes.

He said: “The festival is always a thoroughly enjoyable community event, and it was a delight to see these talented musicians perform.”
