Stanage Pole to rise again in the Peak District

A replacement for the Peak District landmark Stanage Pole will be put up this weekend.

The ceremony - which also forms part of celebrations to mark the 65th anniversary of the Peak Park - will be at midday on Sunday.

The pole has been missing from Hallam Moors, close to Stanage Edge, since last year when it was removed as the timber had rotted. A pole has stood on the moors, marking the border of Derbyshire and Yorkshire, for several hundred years.

The replacement is a larch tree trunk, sourced from the Stanage-North Lees estate. Members of the British Mountaineering Council will help to hoist the pole into place.

The Sunshine Pizza Oven will be selling hot food on the day on the Sheffield side of Long Causeway, next to the Redmires Plantation.
