Well-known residents who have spent decades helping the community are to be named Honorary Freemen of Rotherham.

Lieutenant Commander Allen Dixon, Brian Chapple and Stephen Smith will be presented with the accolade at a ceremony in the summer.

Mr Dixon has organised both the Remembrance Day and Mayor’s Parade through Rotherham town centre for more than 50 years.

Mr Chapple has lived and worked in Rotherham since 1969 and is a well-known face and voice across the borough through his work with both Rotherham United Football Club and Rotherham Titans Rugby Club.

Solicitor Steve Smith is a published author and has raised more that £2million for good causes over 40 years in the town.
