Stagecoach is working with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive to maintain routes 8/8a, 23, 24, 34/34a and 92. The company has introduced some timetable changes to keep its coverage as wide as possible while taking on the new routes.

As a result, the 92 bus will run to Millhouse Green, with some journeys extending to Crow Edge. The service to Holmfirth is provided by the number 25 bus. Number 23 will run directly between Penistone and Stocksbridge via Cubley.

Stagecoach Yorkshire managing director Paul Lynch said: “I’m proud of the way our staff have responded to this situation and enabled us to act very quickly to maintain these links for passengers.

“We’ll now take the opportunity to assess these services before making any further changes.”

Former Shadow Transport Secretary and current Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher, who has previously criticised Tates, said it was ‘appallingly shoddy’ that the company had given less than 24 hours’ notice of their services coming to an end. He said passengers should not be left ‘high and dry’.
