Stage talents join forces at Edinburgh Festival Fringe

At last year’s Fringe the cast and crew of Sheffield stand-up poetry double act The Glummer Twins visited a restaurant to celebrate a successful opening night.

They got chatting to Rose Condo and Victoria Sawka of plush tiger productions who were in Edinburgh performing Doncaster-based Clara-Nel Haddon’s play Desert Bloom.

The following day, Rose, Victoria and Clara-Nel went to see the Glummer Twins’ show.

They got chatting after the performance and Clara-Nel discovered that Glummer Twin Ray Globe and his friend Mick Connell have been directing theatre shows together in and around Sheffield for as long as they could remember.

So on their return from Edinburgh, a meeting was convened in a Rotherham pub and a plan was duly hatched.

Clara-Nel Haddon was already developing two new plays to take to this year’s Fringe, so it was agreed that Mick and Ray would direct them.

Sheffielder Ray and his comedy partner David Harmer from Doncaster were already planning to revisit the Fringe in 2016 with The Glummer Twins.

And just to round things off, Rose Condo, who was cast to appear in one of the new plays, decided to take her own one-woman spoken word show How to Starve an Artist to the festival.

It’s been a busy year but now all four shows are ready for the trip north of the border later this month.

Of the new plays, Noiseless & Patient has already been previewed at this year’s Brighton Fringe and was well received by critics and audiences.

Clara-Nel’s second new play, Sisu, will premier in Edinburgh.

The Glummer Twins, who were shortlisted for the Best Spoken Word Show award at this year’s Buxton Fringe, will be taking their new show to Edinburgh for seven performances.

Performance poet Rose is doing six performances as part of the free Fringe.

To complicate matters, The Glummer Twins will also be special guests for one of Rose’s shows!

Noiseless & Patient is at Space Triplex at 3.40pm, August 16-27, Sisu is at space@surgeonshall at 7.15pm on August 15-27 and The Glummer Twins appear at Paradise in the Vault at 11.35am on August 22-28. How to Starve an Artist is at Cowgatehead at 6.45pm on August 22-27.
