Staff 'working with police' after stabbing just yards from Sheffield primary school

Staff at a Sheffield primary school have said they are working with police after a stabbing just yards from the main entrance.

Batemoor Close, Batemoor, was closed off by police at around 12.30pm today after a man was stabbed.

The 30-year-old was treated by paramedics before being transported to A&E at the Northern General Hospital.

An air ambulance landed at the scene but it is believed that the man was driven to hospital under a police escort.

Lower Meadow Primary Academy is just over 300 yards away from the scene of the stabbing and principal Karen Brown said they are in discussion with the police.

She said: "We are currently taking advice from the police and the Astrea Academy Trust on the best way of handling parents and children around pick-up time."

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "A report was received at around 12.25pm today that a man had suffered suspected stab wounds in the Batemoor area of Sheffield.

"Officers are currently in attendance at the scene on Batemoor Close.

"The 30-year-old man has been transported to hospital where his condition at this time is believed to be life threatening."
