Thousands of hospital staff have been protected from winter bugs through a seasonal flu vaccination programme.

Three quarters of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital Trust’s staff of 4,000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated to ensure that they are fit and ready to look after patients once the cold snap starts.

A spokesman said: “The large numbers of frontline staff coming forward so quickly shows a real determination by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals’ workforce to keep their patients safe and harm free.”

Debbie O’Toole, head of cccupational health and wellbeing at he trust, said: “Our staff have done us proud and we know they are passionate about their work and patient care. It is brilliant they have wholeheartedly embraced and supported the flu vaccination programme again this year.

“Flu can be very serious for our sick and vulnerable patients, and having the vaccine remains the best way to protect them against the potential for serious harm from flu this winter.”

The trust has set itself a target of vaccinating 85 per cent of its frontline staff, who are employed in hospitals in Doncaster, Worksop and Mexborough.
