St Luke's fundraiser celebrates art and life

The flowers will all be handpainted by St Luke’s patients and volunteers throughout July, and will form the focus of a unique arts project - The Summer Celebration of Life - that will then go on display in the hospice’s gardens on July 31.

The stunning display will then be sold off, for a minimum donation of £46 per flower - the cost of two hours of complete care for a patient in the St Luke’s In Patient Centre.

Each contributor will receive their very own limited edition ceramic flower, complete with a certificate that marks the inaugural year and records the number of the flower in the overall charitable series. Each flower will be presented in a gift box and will be accompanied by a wooden leaf, inscribed with the name of a loved one.

St Luke’s head of fundraising, Kathryn Burkitt, said: “This is a truly collaborative campaign for St Luke’s, uniting our staff, our patients and out wonderful volunteers, bringing them all together to hand paint these special Summer of Celebration flowers in our Therapies and Rehabilitation Centre Art Room.

“Every donation will be marked by having the name of loved ones recorded in a special book of remembrance, which will then be available to view at the event. The pages of the remembrance book will be made of seeded paper that will ultimately be planted in the St Luke’s gardens.”
