Sports reporter in a return to his roots

A FORMER Doncaster Star reporter is to be the new face of sports coverage on ITV Yorkshire's Calendar programme.

Barnsley-born David Hirst, who worked on the former Doncaster Evening Post and its successor, the Doncaster edition of The Star, has joined Calendar as a sports reporter and presenter and arrives with a wealth of experience in TV, radio and newspaper journalism.

The 50-year-old, who started his career on the weekly Barnsley Chronicle, was a freelance journalist before moving into broadcasting and has held staff positions at the BBC and Sky News in London.

Since 2000 he’s been a freelance sports reporter, working for BBC Final Score, BBC Football Focus, Sky Sports Premier League Preview Show, Football Mundial and Eurosport International in Paris.

A former pupil at St Wilfrid’s RC High School at Featherstone, he is married with three children and lives in Sheffield.

David said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Calendar team and returning to my Yorkshire roots.”
