Sports players ready to make a racket

More than 500 of the world’s leading junior squash players are set to descend on Sheffield this week.

The city is hosting the Tecnifibre British Junior Championships across the three locations from Wednesday until Sunday.

Players, coaches and their families are coming from across Europe, the Middle East, Hong Kong, Australia and the USA.

Boys and girls are both represented in categories representing under 13 years, under 15s, under 17s and under 19s.

Matches are being are played across three top South Yorkshire squash clubs, The Hallamshire Tennis and Squash Club in Hunters Bar, Abbeydale Park Racket and Fitness Club and Fulwood Sports Club.

This year, the British Junior Open will be used to launch of The Big Hit a new experiential campaign being launched in 2013 by England Squash and Racketball.

The initiative aims to get more people playing the sports for recreational and social purposes.
