Speedway: Howarth urges Tigers to move on from Newcastle hammering

The Tigers saw their Knockout Cup dreams all but ended by a 62-28 thrashing against Newcastle in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Sunday. It was a miserable evening for the Yorkshireman, with Howarth conceding it was “just one of those days”.

However, he knows they must quickly move on as they look to issue a clear response in the second leg at Owlerton on Thursday (7.30).

“It was a disappointing meeting for us at Newcastle, but it was just one of those days where nothing went to plan,” Howarth said.

“You’re always going to have one of those days, you’re never going to go through the whole season without having a big loss at some stage.

“It was unfortunate, and we were all frustrated with the way we performed but we can’t let it affect us – we just have to move on.

“It wasn’t ideal to have that bad meeting in the Cup because it means we’ll struggle to get through now, but it is what it is.

“We’ve been riding well recently, especially at home and one bad result doesn’t mean we are suddenly a bad team.

“We’ll definitely be looking to bounce back at Thursday at home, and even though it will be a tough meeting all the boys will give it our best shot.”

Meanwhile, Tigers have confirmed the return of fans favourite Jason Garrity at this weekend’s Premier League Fours Championship. Garrity has been out for three weeks with an arm injury and will make his comeback in the showpiece event at Peterborough’s East of England Showground.
