Speedway fans, start great weekend at Owlerton Stadium for Sheffield Tigers match

Sheffield co-promoter Peter Mole is hoping to take advantage of this weekend's FIM Speedway World Cup Final to generate a big crowd for their clash with Peterborough on Thursday (7.30).

The high-flying Tigers will resume their Premier League campaign as a strong Panthers side visit Owlerton in a mouth-watering clash.

Club bosses are urging supporters to start their World Cup weekends early by visiting the city to begin a bumper few days of racing.

Belle Vue’s new National Speedway Stadium in Manchester will host the World Cup Race-Off on Friday before the Final of the showpiece event featuring Alun Rossiter’s Great Britain side takes place 24 hours later.

Mole believes a trip to Owlerton is the perfect way for fans to warm up for the competition as the Tigers aim to bounce back from their Knockout Cup elimination against Newcastle.

Said Mole: “It’s going to be a great weekend of speedway with the World Cup in Manchester, and we want that to start at Owlerton on Thursday.

“It’s a perfect chance for people to start their weekend a bit earlier by coming to Sheffield for what should be a really exciting meeting against Peterborough.

“There is plenty to do in Sheffield and lots of hotels around the local area, so it’s an ideal way to make it three meetings in three days to start things off!

“There’s going to be a big crowd going to Belle Vue for the World Cup, so hopefully we can get plenty of people to Owlerton on Thursday to cheer us on to three more points!”

Tigers experienced disappointment in the Premier League Fours on Saturday. A fine performance from Kyle Howarth was not enough to see their quartet advance from semi-final two at the East of England Showground.

Simon Stead, Dimitri Berge and Josh Bates all had mixed fortunes as the Yorkshiremen missed out to Plymouth as their bid to reach the Final of the event the very next day.
