Speedway ace Howarth revelling on life with Sheffield Tigers

The British Under 21 Champion has hit the ground running with the Tigers, bagging 29+3 points in his last three outings including two impressive performances on home soil.

The highly-rated youngster has spoken of how he is enjoying riding around the sweeping Owlerton circuit - the fastest in British speedway.

After Tigers were held to a 45-45 draw by Peterborough last week, he is confident they can earn their first home win of the season against Scunthorpe on Thursday (7.30).

With aspirations of bringing major silverware back to the city, Howarth is expecting their exciting young side to go from strength to strength as the season progresses.

“I’m really enjoying Sheffield, it’s a big, fast track and it’s great fun to ride,” Howarth said.

“I’m still improving around there all the time, but I’m pleased with how I’ve started the season and I just want to keep getting better.

“It’s a long season, but things are looking promising and I’m sure this side can develop.

“We rode well against Peterborough, we always knew it was going to be tough and we were disappointed not to win, but we had some bad luck with bike problems and on another day the result could have easily gone our way.

“We’ve still got things to work on, we are still getting our season going but we’ve already shown plenty of positives and that win at Scunthorpe especially showed what we are capable of.

“Hopefully we can pick up a big win at home against Scunthorpe on Thursday to get everyone’s confidence up again.

“I’ve got no doubts that we’ll be up there and in the mix as the season goes on, so we just need to keep picking up points and developing as a team.”

Howarth and the Tigers were left frustrated on Saturday night as their League Cup clash at Ipswich was postponed due to heavy rain.
