Spectacular TV opportunity for Sheffield champion Tommy Frank this weekend

Not only does his fight on Friday merit as the headliner, but the Freesports-televised contest is also an eliminator for a Commonwealth title.

All that have just eight pro fights.

Frank (8-0) is a super flyweight, a 115 pounds division where opportunities can come quicker than expected.

His trainer Glyn Rhodes said Frank's fight against Adam Yahaya, from Tanzania, presents a remarkable opportunity.

"To be topping the bill in your home city, at Ponds Forge, in only your ninth fight...I have told Tommy you should be proud of yourself.

"Some guys never top the bill in Sheffield, that's unbelievable."

Frank was initially slated to fight Guernsey's Brad Watson but he pulled out, so promoter Dennis Hobson secured Yahaya, whose countryman Nasibu Ramadhan will challenge Sheffield's Loua Nassa in a bantamweight Commonwealth title eliminator on the same show.

Rhodes says that Yahaya has a strong record (18-2-1) and more experience than Frank saying: "I hope it's not a banana skin.

"Boxing is all about pressure. The kid he is fighting he is a tough kid, we often find with these Africans they come over here and you've never heard of theme before and when they get in the ring they are a right handful, as we saw a few weeks ago with the guy who beat (Sam) Eggington (Hassan Mwakinyo from Tanzania.)

Underdogs can produce an unexpected result, Rhodes said.

"If you can't handle the pressure, you're in the wrong game anyway. If Tommy is to become champion he needs to be beating guys like this."

Rhodes added that central area champion Frank, 25, was one of three boxers on the show who had come through the amateur ranks at Sheffield Boxing Centre. Keenan Wainwright and Kane Salvin would be making their paid-debuts at the event, in four rounders.
