Special constables in Rotherham ran a second retail crime day by targeting shoplifters.

The event in the town centre and Parkgate Retail World was organised after the success of a similar day of action in April.

Special constables in the town were all given details of prolific offenders and which shops they regularly target so they could hand out crime prevention advice to traders.

Officers also conducted high-visibility patrols in and around the town.

A 25-year-old man from Brinsworth was arrested by two special constables after he was spotted acting suspiciously in a town centre shop.

He was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting after they searched him and found an electric toothbrush concealed in his jacket.

He was charged with theft and possession of a controlled drug.
