Spate of small blazes means busy shifts for firefighters

Firefighters dealt with a spate of small fires around South Yorkshire.

One on scrubland off Sky Edge, Wybourn, Sheffield, at 8.20pm on Tuesday, was started deliberately.

There was another fire in woodland next to allotments off Tower Street, Barnsley, at 8.40pm the same night.

Meanwhile, the cause of a small fire in an outhouse on Stradbroke Road, Richmond, Sheffield, at 10pm on Tuesday was accidental.

Another fire outside Sheffield Council’s Howden House offices on Union Street, at 2.45am yesterday, is believed to have been caused by a cigarette end and caused no major damage.

Decking also caught fire at a house on Beeley Road, Oughtibridge, at 5.30am yesterday.
