THERE must be a dozen good reasons to celebrate a birthday.
But Corey Lee Smith and Abby Houghton have more than just the one dozen.
That’s because this pair of South Yorkshire youngsters will both celebrate their 12th on 12-12-12.
First to arrive was Corey, of Trentham Close, Brinsworth, Rotherham.
Amazingly the Brinsworth Comprehensive School pupil arrived in the world shortly after noon at Sheffield’s Jessops Hospital.
Dad Jason said like many 12 year-old lads, keen Wednesdayite Corey loves playing on his Xbox and turning out for Brinsworth Whitehill under-12s FC.
And his target for the season – to score 12 goals.
Jason said: “We, as parents, didn’t realise ourselves about this particular day until a few months after he was born but we will make up for it.
“He’s spending his birthday by going go-karting then having a sleepover the following weekend with his best friends.
“So this special birthday is going to be celebrated over a few days and not just on the day itself with a few surprises thrown in which he doesn’t know about.
“He’s pleasantly surprised and excited with it being a unique and special birthday.
“He also loves the uniqueness of it all and has been telling all his friends and is looking forward to spending his big day with myself, his mum Joanne and sister Shannon.”
Abby, who lives in Maple Grove, Handsworth, came along a little later than Corey.
She was born at the old maternity unit at Northern General Hospital at 3.24pm – which is of course a multiple of 12.
And what will the Handsworth Grange Community Sports College pupil be doing on her big day? Possibly the 12 times table says her mum Colene.
“As her birthday falls on a Wednesday she will be at school,” she said.
“But on Saturday she will be going to Damons with a few friends for a meal and then shopping at Meadowhall – which will undoubtedly cost me a fortune!
“She is very excited for her birthday as it’s not every day you have a birthday like that.”
Abby is a very talented gymnast and won quite a few competitions when she was a pupil at Ballifield Primary School.
She loves animals, especially exotics, and has two bearded dragons and a leopard gecko.
Abby is also a founding member of the Funky Dance Fever group.
Colene said: “She is a massive fan of Lady Gaga. For a treat in September I took her to London for the weekend and we went to see one of her concerts.”
