South Yorkshire Wacky Warehouse given deep clean after coronavirus case

The Wacky Warehouse at The Marquis in Rotherham has seen specialist cleaning teams in full body suits cleaning equipment at the pub throughout the day after a customer who visited last weekend was confirmed to have contracted the COVID-19 virus.

A spokesman for owners Greene King said that the pub was not shut and that bosses arranged for the deep clean to reassure customers.

A statement said: “Just to be clear the Marquis is not closed, however a customer who visited last weekend since tested positive earlier in the week.

“We have spoken with Public Health England who have confirmed there is no risk to anyone of catching coronavirus from visiting the Marquis or its Wacky Warehouse and there was no need to close.

“After listening to concerns from the community we have decided to go over and above the current guidance and have arranged for a deep clean of the Wacky Warehouse today to offer further reassurance to our customers that there is no risk.”

Yesterday, Monkwood Primary School in Rawmarsh, Rotherham confirmed the parent of a pupil had contracted coronavirus after coming into contact with another confirmed case. The pupil and the rest of the family are self-isolating for 14 days. They have not tested positive for the virus.

Despite the news, some parents said they would still keep their children away from the school.

One parent said: “Well my kids aren't going. There is every possibility other parents or children will have it if the parent and child have been in school until having a positive test.

“Just because everyone else is testing negative doesn't mean it won't change over the coming days or weeks. Everyone's situation is different. Some people are vulnerable and some people just can't afford 2 weeks off on SSP. Plus if I ended up with it my department at work would all have to self isolate and my dad's business would also be affected.

Public Health England said any risk to people in Rotherham remains low and they should go about their normal business.
