South Yorkshire social worker celebrates success at House of Commons

A South Yorkshire social worker who won two top prizes at the Social Worker of the Year Awards last year has celebrated her success at an exclusive parliamentary reception in the House of Commons.

Helen Pye, who works for the South West Yorkshire NHS Partnership Foundation Trust, celebrated with Chief Social Worker for Children and Families, Isabelle Trowler.

She won awards for Overall Social Worker of the Year and Mental Health Social Worker of the Year at a prestigious national awards ceremony in November.

Helen was invited to the House of Commons event to meet the country’s Chief Social Worker and help officially launch the 2016 awards.

She said: “It’s really nice to have been invited to the House of Commons to be recognised for and to celebrate social work. The awards themselves were such a lovely event but it’s nice to be able to network a little bit, speak with the other winners and just to catch up with everybody again.”

Helen is a member of a team which provides forensic child and adolescent mental health services.

She was recognised for the difference she has had on the lives of the young people she works with.

The contribution she has made to her team and wider practice in the region was also described as ‘unique and crucial’.

Isabelle Trowler said: “It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate social work here in the House of Commons.

“These awards do an excellent job of recognising the commitment, talent and skill of some of the most inspiring individuals in the social work profession, and I feel very lucky to have been able to meet the award winners and hear about their achievements.”

James Rook, Managing Director of the awards’ headline sponsors, Sanctuary Social Care, said: “I was thrilled to be able to catch up with Helen at the House of Commons after presenting her with her award back in November.

“It’s so inspiring to hear about how she has positively transformed services in the local area, at the same time as delivering excellent social work and making a huge difference to the lives of the young people she supports.”

The Social Worker of the Year Awards were first held in 2006, with the aim of improving the understanding and reputation of the profession.

Entries for this year’s awards will open on Tuesday, March 29.
