ChildLine volunteers in Yorkshire expect to carry out about 350 online counselling sessions this month.

The charity runs a free and confidential 24-hour helpline and online service for children.

Last December, Yorkshire volunteers received 57 contacts about family relationship issues. They also carried out 29 counselling sessions about bullying and online bullying, including 19 about suicide

Gaynor Birnie, ChildLine service manager for Yorkshire, said: “Our volunteers will be spending Christmas Day not with their families, but seeing the other side of the festive season. We’ll be talking to children and young people for whom Christmas can be a truly miserable time.”
