Some of South Yorkshire’s best new bands will be showcased on BBC Radio 1 this week, as part of a spotlight on new, unsigned musicians from around the country.
Music by Renegade Brass Band, Blessa, O Captain, Ian Britt, LVTHER and Elegies will be played when Huw Stephens’s show focuses on the region’s vibrant music scene, from today to Wednesday.
The acts were handpicked by Christian Carlisle, who presents BBC Introducing on BBC Radio Sheffield, as well as by local music experts who were also asked for their favourites.
Christian will take over the microphone from Huw to showcase the area’s young musical stars.
He said: “We have had so many brilliant acts on the show that it took a lot of soul searching to choose which to play.
“I am sent so much outstanding music that it makes what I do feel less like a job and more like a privilege, so it’s wonderful to give some of them the national coverage and recognition they deserve.”
Christian’s show on BBC Radio Sheffield goes out every Saturday night and is dedicated to supporting unsigned, undiscovered and under the radar musicians from South Yorkshire.
Huw’s show is on Mondays to Wednesdays, between 10pm to 1am, on Radio 1.
He has become a national champion for new artists, and is keen to support BBC Introducing shows around the UK which have helped showcase bands including alt J, Friendly Fires, Catfish & The Bottlemen and Florence & the Machine.
Tonight’s show will feature music by Renegade Brass Band and Blessa, while O Captain and Ian Britt’s work will hit the airwaves tomorrow night. LVTHER and Elegies will be played on Wednesday night’s show.
