South Yorkshire residents urged to kick booze for cancer

Have your say

SOUTH Yorkshire men are being challenged to lay off the booze for a month to raise money for Cancer Research UK as part of its new fundraising campaign Dryathlon.

Men and women are being asked to pledge now to give up alcohol in January and raise money for vital research into cancer.

Those who are man enough – or woman enough – to drop the drink are being encouraged to be sponsored by family, friends and colleagues.

Or they can donate the money they save by going dry during January to the charity.

Nicki Embleton, of Cancer Research UK, said: “We’re encouraging everyone – men and women - to commit to Dryathlon in December, knowing they will have a challenge ahead of them for a good cause when their willpower picks up on New Year’s Day.”
