Glasshouse Flaming Grill on Sandygate Road in Wath-upon-Dearne is appealing for football fanatics to join its Not So Fantasy Football League and pick the worst performing players of the upcoming Euro 2016 in a bid to add an extra level of interest for fans.

With £500 up for grabs for the worst performing team of the competition, the bar has joined forces with former player-turned-pundit Chris Kamara, who has outlined his tips on topping the league in a race to the bottom.

He said: “With so many teams in this year’s competition we’re sure to see some amazing own goals, gaffs and rash challenges. By focusing on those players that aren’t usually headlining the European stage the Flaming Grill Not So Fantasy Football League gives Wath-Upon-Dearne fans a chance to get a more rounded view of European football.”

Chris Kamara’s top tips on compiling the ultimate Not So Fantasy Football League team are:-

Form: Look for players whose failings are legendary, with strikers who couldn’t hit the back of a barn let alone the net, and keepers who couldn’t catch a cold.

Obscurity: Look for players more commonly associated with the lower leagues than the Premier League, whose nation’s better known for its association with blood sucking vampires than footballing prowess.

Part timers: If your chosen player spends as much time in his Mr Whippy van as on the pitch, he’s likely to be a sure bet for the Not So Fantasy Football League.

Longevity: While it might be tempting to pack your team with some of Albania’s best footballing talent, remember the competition lasts beyond the group stages, so a weaker player in a better established team could pay dividends later on.

Team work: Remember it’s a team game, so make sure you pack your defence with more leaks than a colander and create a midfield that’s as useful as a chocolate tea pot!

Formation: Use your tactical prowess to select the best formation to fit in the worst players. Choose from 3-5-2, 5-3-2, 4-5-1, 4-3-3, or the classic 4-4-2.

Shane Dempsey, general manager at the Glasshouse, said: “Last year we scoured the nation for the UK’s worst performing local football teams.

“To involve even more Wath-Upon-Dearne footy fans this year we thought why not take it to the international stage and let guests select their own team of flops, bottlers and hatchet men.

“With 51 games over four weeks this is the biggest European football tournament to date. With more countries than ever before, we thought what better way to support Wath-Upon-Dearne football fans than to give them a reason to follow some of the lesser known teams and players.”
