Dr Alan Billings is to award grants to help to victims of crime, vulnerable people and groups set up to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available.

Dr Alan Billings said: “Last year I received 118 applications and due to a significantly reduced budget, I was only able to fund 26 projects.

"This year I would like to help more community groups by offering smaller amounts, with a longer period of time to apply.

“I am hoping that groups looking to help their communities, applying for smaller amounts of funding will take advantages of these changes.

"Last year I was fortunate to visit many of the successful applicants to see the work they are doing. This enables me to find out about the work of local groups and the issues they are facing in their area..

“The changes in the grant scheme that have been implemented should make the process easier for people to apply and more effective in addressing the priorities set out in my police

and crime plan.
